Car Ride!

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

We went to a wedding in Asheville, NC, this past weekend.  Since we feel like all we have been doing lately is flying to weddings, we thought we'd take this chance to actually drive, and that way we wouldn't have to board the dog if we brought her with us.  This plan seemed fantastic about two months out when we originally made it.  As the wedding date crept closer I started having second thoughts since the drive would be 5+ hours each way so it wasn't as if we were letting Copper have some fabulous experience when she'd probably rather just be hanging out with her friends at the kennel.  But we decided to try it out.

We drove to Atlanta on Friday night and stayed with MCR.  MCR just got herself a little cat named Birdie, who is adorable.  She also likes to hide and is pretty good at it:

Needless to say Copper and Birdie weren't exactly fast friends.  Birdie wouldn't let Copper get near enough to even look at her so Copper just decided to bark her head off at the cat.  Good thing we brought the bark collar.  Too bad the bark collar isn't able to buzz Copper when she decides to pee on MCR's brand new rug...

Anywho, the next day we hit the road and it turns out the Copper is a very good car companion.  We had never driven with her farther than the lake (about an hour and a half) and so didn't know what to expect.  Well, she is a little observer.  She didn't sleep a wink while we were driving and instead just sat up in the way back and stared out the window the whole trip.

What is really great about this is she is TIRED after car rides.  We were expecting her to nap the whole time and then be crazy but that wasn't the case at all.  She did very well in the hotel room Saturday night, and even got a little sign on our door letting everyone know that a "four legged guest" was staying there.

On the way back Sunday we got to stop at my childhood summer camp which was a lot of fun.  Copper loved walking around the lake and would have gladly taken a swim had we let her.

Adventures at camp and keeping a constant eye on traffic wore the little girl out.  We got home Sunday to one tired dog!

Cheers to more Adventures in Copperland!
